I, (we) my wife (KD9RUD) got into Ham Radio for emergency communications for when that "bad day" comes and we don't have cell and internet to communicate.  LOL... Not sure that day will ever come, but that was the one motive behind us getting our licenses.

The other is that we needed to stretch our brains as we get older and studying for the Tech. and General gave or brains a good workout.  As they say "use it or loose it". 

So that is why we jumped into the hobby, but the reason we stay on the air is because of the community of Hams that we have become friends with.
